Matthew Combs and PSG have teamed up with Patrick Arop, his village, and so many other great people to deliver safe homes, reliable resources, and hope for a better future.
In 2005, Dateline NBC aired an episode that exposed the events taking place in Uganda within the “Children of War” (Tim Sandler). Amongst the many events that were exposed, one particular young boy (Patrick Arop) was profiled, showing his story, struggles, and life post-escape from his kidnapping from Joseph Kony’s rebels. Patrick spoke directly to his own struggles of witnessing both his parents and many family members slain in front of him, of being forced at gun point to carry out the order of Kony’s militia, and now, all that he needed to do to ensure he avoid recapture while seeking to build/rebuild his life. Matt Combs saw the airing of “Children of War” and made it his mission to help. This served as the inspiration and motivation behind the formation of YourCause, and since, the launch of Project Safehouse.
Project Safehouse seeks to continue to work with Patrick and his team to construct safe homes and structures for the entire village, all by employing the villagers as the preferred labor source. As well, the project seeks to establish a proper school for the young children, employ an appropriate educator, and fund the ongoing education of the village into the future. Additional bathroom facilities, water irrigation, improved farming techniques, and access to additional food sources are future envisioned actions for Project Safehouse.
